Six IT firms compete for Corporate Football Cup

Mangalore, 20 October 2010: A small number of people, gathered in various groups stood in hot sun as players representing their companies fought it out in the league matches of the Corporate Cup Football Tournament which began here on Sunday.
Six teams of six different companies — Infosys A, Infosys B, Mphasis, Invenger Technologies, Core Logic, and Glow Touch — are competing in the tournament which began at the Nehru Maidan. The league matches were divided into two groups: Group A, comprising Infosys A, Mphasis, and Glow Touch, and Group B consisting of the rest.
Play was interspersed with the whistle of the referee and shouts of “lovely, lovely” from supporters of the teams when their player displayed crafty footwork. Several women stood under the shade of umbrellas, determined to follow the match.
An employee of Core Logic, who turned up to watch the matches, said their team was in the lead and was winning. Attracted by the play, several passers-by stood outside the ground to get a glimpse of what was going on.
The winners of Group A will play the runners up of Group B and vice versa on October 24, and the winners of these matches will play each other to win the cup. A match will also be held for the third place. The tournament has been organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Football Association, according to association secretary Mohammed Hussain.
