Moodubelle, 08 January 2010: Celebration of Jubilees should be a time for the renewal of commitments and starting something new. With this view, the old students of St. Lawrence High School, who had participated in the Golden Jubilee of their beloved Alma Mater held a meeting on Sunday, 3rd January 2010 in the Parish Hall at a short notice. Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence composite PU College presided over the meeting.
Mr. Devdas Hebbar, President of the Old Students’ Association could not attend the meeting due to the sad demise of his father, Subraya Hebbar during the previous night. Before commencing the meeting, all stood in one minute silence to pay respected to the departed soul.
The meeting was convened primarily to review the programmes conducted on 30th December 2009 as part of the Old Students and Parents-Teachers Associations Day. There was great appreciation of the overwhelming participation of the Old Students in various fun games on the ground and in the hall. The evening programmes-the Rasamanjari sponsored by the Bellevision (UAE) and the Tulu Play, ‘Panandhe Padhrad’ also earned kudos from the Principal and other old students. A special mention was made of the efforts taken by the Bellevision representatives in organising the morning as well as the evening functions.
Meanwhile, some old students made valuable suggestions regarding the criteria for felicitating old students and also pointed out that care should be taken while preparing the list of those who would be honoured and the need to widen the areas of activities such as agriculture and business from where those old students who had achieved remarkable feat could be honoured.
There were valid suggestions that Golden Jubilee should not be the end of the gathering but the beginning of continued association and interaction between old students on regular basis. In order to achieve this objective emphasis was laid on the need to have annual get-together of as many old students as possible. It was agreed by all those who were present at the meeting that a suitable date between the Christmas and the Annual Parish Feast could be selected for the Annual Alumni get-together as many old students from different parts of India and abroad make it a point to come to their native village during the Christmas holidays.
Fr. Paul Sequeira welcomed the idea and said that following the Annual General Body Meeting of the Old Students Association either in the month of June or July 2010, a suitable date for the Alumni get-together would be announced.
