Mumbai, 23 September 2010: The most popular festival especially in Mumbai, the Ganesh Chaturthi came to an end with the final immersion of Ganesh idols on the Ananth Chaturdashi day, 22nd September 2010. In Mumbai and its suburbs thousands of large, medium and small Ganesh idols were immersed into the water bodies like various lakes, creeks and seas. At Chowpatty seashore Mumbai where majority of the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandali’s Ganesh idols were immersed lakhs of people had gathered to bid devout adieu to Shri Ganesh.

In Mumbai the Ganesh Chaturthi festival is specially celebrated in a grand manner across the length and breadth of the city as well as the state of Maharashtra. The huge idols of Shri Ganesh were taken in grand processions mounted on trucks which were taken up to the beaches such as Girgaum Chowpatty, Juhu and Versova. Idols were also taken to the Powai Lake for visarjan.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had closely coordinated with the traffic and police department to ensure peaceful processions of Shri Ganesh across the city and its suburbs so that there would be no untoward incidents and inconvenience to the people. The BMC had arranged around 6,000 volunteers, 500 lifeguards, 59 motorboats, over 60 first-aid stations and ambulances besides 15 mobile toilets at all immersion sites.
