Udupi: St. Lawrence College, Moodubelle celebrates Second Annual Day

Udupi, 22 Feb 2014: St. Lawrence College, Moodubelle celebrated its Second Annual Day with grandeur on Saturday, 22 February 2014 at 2.30 pm in St. Lawrence PU College Auditorium. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions presided over the stage function. Prof. Rajan V.N.-Principal of St. Mary’s College, Shirva was the Chief Guest. Dean, Commodore Jerome Castelino, Principal-Mrs. Sarita D’Souza, Student Welfare Officer-Mrs. Veena Palan, Parents-Teachers Association president-Vincent D’Sa, Students  Union Council Presiodent-Ms. Sarita D’Souza and Students Union Council Secretary-Divya were on the dais.

 

Other guests included Fr. Paul Sequeira-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Fr. P. Raj-Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Fr. Reginald Pinto-Chief of CODP, Udupi Diocese, Alphonse K. Alva-Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Sylvester Mathias-Headmaster of the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza-member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Mrs. Theresa D’Almeida-Counselor and Gilber Fernandes-Office Superintendent of St. Mary’s College, Shirva.

 

Following the prayer by the students, Commodore  Jerome Castelino welcomed the guests. Mrs. Sarita D’Souza, Principal of the College presented the report of the curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the college during the academic year 2013-14.

 

 

The chief guest Prof. Rajan V.N. distributed prizes to the students who had excelled in academic field. He also gave away prizes to the winners in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities The names of the students were read by Mrs. Kusuma Makwaan. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes gave away certificates to the winners of the sports meet held in the month of December 2013. The list of the winners was read by Mrs. Sarita Ashwin.

 

In his address, the chief guest Prof. Rajan V.N. congratulated the students for their success and said that though the college is just two years old, it has registered commendable success. Two years may be the small steps towards a giant leap in the future. Referring to the future of the higher education, Prof. Rajan said that the Central Government is keen in increasing the number of students in institutions sof higher education, hence there will be more colleges in the near future. Stressing upon the importance of education, Prof. Rajan said that along with knowledge skill is very important. He further said that there is no dearth of employment, but there is shortage of employability which can be achieved both through knowledge and developing skills. He emphasized on seven principles of success: Aiming high, being cool, time management, reflection before action, looking beyond vision, upgrading knowledge and working hard to achieve goals.

 

In his presidential message, rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes lauded the efforts of the principal, lecturers and students in bringing good results in the last examination and asked them to work still harder to achieve higher percentage of results. He also made an appeal to the parents to encourage their children to study well and also spread good message to the neighbours so that they can send their children to the college.

 

Ms. Sarita D’Souza-President of the Students Council proposed the vote of thanks. Lionel Pereira compeered the stage programme.

 

The cultural programme that followed was a mixture of dances, skits, singing and a suspense play. The students put in good performance in all the verity entertainment programme. Ms. Poornima compeered the cultural programme.

 

 

Earlier, on Friday, 21 February 2014, as part of the college annual day celebration, the students participated overwhelmingly in ‘Cooking Without Fire’ competition in which seven groups of students prepared verities of items including snacks, chutneys, laddoos, salads and other assorted items and juices.

 

On Saturday, 22 February 2014 morning, the students participated in the Fancy Dress Competition.
