Abu Dhabi: Bunts Dubai lifts ISC-Arab Udupi both Gents and Ladies Throwball Trophies in style

Abu Dhabi: 23 Nov 2013: In one of the most exiting throwball tournament Bunts Dubai both gents & ladies teams lifted the grand ISC-Arab Udupi Group 2nd Throwball Championship Trophies in style in a closely contest final matches.

 

The participated teams were:  Ladies Teams: Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, K C O - Abu Dhabi, Bunts Dubai, Mogaveers UAE, Konkans Dubai, I S C Abu Dhabi, Mangalore Konkans, Kanarites.

 

Gents Teams: Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, K C O - Abu Dhabi, Bunts Dubai (A), Mogaveers UAE, Konkans Dubai, Bunts Dubai (B), Mangalore Konkans, Kanarites.

It was a daunting task for all Dubai teams to make to Abu Dhabi in a rain and accidents filled road problems at ShaikZayed Road as they had to take various diversions and somehow they managed to reached the venue a little late but refreshed. 
The tournament began with ever green Mr. Sarvotham Shetty,Former President of India Social & Cultural Centre, Abu Dhabi and an able and dynamic leader in U.A.E. called upon the captains of the teams for the lots and fix the league matches.  All the sponsors and ISC officials were then invited to the dais for the inauguration of the tournament.

 

The main sponsor of the tournament Mr.S B Shetty of Arab Udupi Group of Hotels thanked all the teams and said winning or losing the match is not important but participating is very important and he wished them all the best.  Mr. ZiadHon.Sports Secretary and organizer of the tournament very was happy to see large number of teams participating and thanked them for your support.  Also on the dais present wereCo - Sponsors - Mr.JairamRai (Group Finance Manager Bin Fardan Group), Hilda Henry DSouza(WestCoast).  However Mr.SatishVenkataramanaof Chilly Willy, Dubai (co-sponsor) could not attend due to his other commitments in Dubai).  Mr. Sarvotham Shetty thanked all the sponsors for their overwhelming support not only for this tournament but for all community associated programs.  He also thanked all the teams and also the media representatives.  Also present on the dais were Mr. Sham (ISC HonAsst.Sports Secretary and Mr. VG Thomas and referees Ms. AnnettMenezes, Ms.JesinthaRasquinhaand Mr. SatishShetty.

 

Mr.Sathya Babu - Hon.General Secretary, declared the tournament open.  The tournament opened by passing the ball from one court toanother court by Mr.SB Shetty Mr.Ziad.  The oath taking ceremony took place prior to beginning of the matches led by Ms. Hilda D’Souza and the groups photos were taken.

 

 

 

The inaugural match was played at the Main ISC Hall between Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi and ISC ladies in which Karnataka Sangha won the match easily.

 

The rest of the league matches were played on the roof top of the ISC and all the matches were played cordially and the teams had no issues at all with refereeing of the matches.  After all the closely contested matches between all teams the following teams made it to the Semi Finals:

 

Ladies

Bunts Dubai won against Mangalore Konkans Dubai (Points 21 - 14)
K C O Abu Dhabi won against Mogaveers UAE ( Points 21 - 10)

Gents

Konkans Dubai won against Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha (Points 21 - 15)
Bunts Dubai (A) won against Mangalore Konkans (Points 21 - 16)

 

The exiting finals matches were a treat to watch especially the Gents Finals between Bunts Dubai (A) against Konkans Dubai the first set was won by Dubai Konkans(11:15) however in the next two sets Dubai Konkans lost to Bunts Dubai (A) with a narrow margin i.e. by  15-14 ; 15-10) and eventually Bunts Dubai won the match and Dubai Konkans were runners up.
However, in the ladies Final matches the Bunts Dubai won the first set easily against KCO, Abu Dhabi but KCO gave a good fight in the second  set but Bunts Dubai managed to beat them by just one point i.e.15-14 and KCO went down fighting a good match.

 

When the tournament was over the prize distribution ceremony was held at the ISC main hall.  ISC had organized prizes and gift hampers for all the participants of the tournament a big thanks to all the generous sponsors said Mr. Sarvotham Shetty during the prize distribution ceremony.

 

The three referees Ms. Annett Menezes, Ms.JesinthaRasquinha and Mr. Satish Shetty were honoured with gift hampers.  Mr. Sarvotham Shetty thanked them for their dedication and conducting the matches ably and then the trophies were distributed to all the winning teams and each member of the teams.  Those who played outstanding games were also invited on the stage and honoured with special prizes namely:

Ladies -

Best Service - Maria Jyothi of Mangalore Konkans, Dubai
Best Defender - Shakila Shetty of Bunts Dubai
Best Striker - Preeti of KCO, Abu Dhabi
Best All-Rounder - Shashi Shetty of Bunts Dubai

 

Gents -

Best Service - Ranjit Shetty of Bunts Dubai
Best Defender - Anand Menezes of Konkans, Dubai
Best Striker - Raviraj Shetty of Bunts Dubai
Best All-rounder - Allan Mendonsa of Konkans, Dubai

 

Mr. Sarvotham Shetty,was too honoured with a floral bouquet by Mr. Ziad (Hon. Sports secretary) for conducting the entire tournament smoothly and praized him for his selfless service to this tournament for conducting matches most effeciently.  Also honoured were his supporters during the match VG Thomas, YogeshPrabhu, Kirthi Kumar, ManoharTonse& ISC members.  Mr. Sarvotham thanked YogeshPrabhu for organizing the tournament with excellent dedication and wonderfully and for overseeing the entire arrangements and needs of the players.  Mr. SatishVenkatraman was thanked for all the gift hampers given for the players through the influence of Mr. JairamaRai who is also a support sponsor and instrumental in getting the prizes from Chili Willy Dubai and he too was honoured.

 

Prize distribution was done by Mr.S B Shetty, Mr.JairamRai, Ms.Hilda D’Souza alongwith all ISC officials.

 

Tournament ended with vote of thanks delivered by Sarvotham Shetty.
