St Raymond’s College all set to adopt a village through NSS

Mangalore, 21 Nov 2013: The NSS team of St Raymond’s College, Vamanjoor has taken up an uphill task of developing an interior village that lacks infrastructure through various initiatives under it’s adopt a village scheme.

 

College principal Sr Celin Vas told that Pallipady village in Kariyangala gram panchayat in Dakshina Kannada district has been chosen for the adopt a village programme. Various initiatives will be taken up to create awareness on government schemes and thereby develop the village comprehensively.

 

A week-long camp will be held at Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School in Pallipady from November 24 as part of the programme. The playground of the school will be levelled, pavements will be built and premises will be cleaned by the NSS volunteers of the college during the camp. Door to door visits will be conducted in the village to create awareness on national integrity and to share information on various government scheme benefits to villagers. Special programmes on agriculture and awareness against drug addiction will also be part of the camp, Sr Celin said adding that various other initiatives will be taken up in the village after the camp through follow up visits and camps.

 

Minister for forest, environment and ecology B Ramanatha Rai will inaugurate the village adoption programme and camp on November 24, she added.
