Karkal: Residents of Belman Blame Road Contractor for series of Mishaps

Karkal, 9 Nov 2013 : The local residents of Belman blamed the contractor of road works who are engaged in widening Padubidri – Karkal road, as a result of which a toddler died and motorcyclist Madhusudan Bhat – the celebrant of Laxmi Janardhan temple, Nandalike and his wife Shruti were injured and are being treated at a private hospital here, when a road roller reversed without any indication, on Thursday November 7.
The villagers expressed their anguish over the contractor – R N S Infrastructure, during the emergency meeting held at Belman panchayat auditorium here on Friday November 8.
The locals demand that display boards ought to be placed when the work is in progress on the road with view of safety to road users, to reduce the speed of express buses while passing through Belman locality, to drive slowly the heavy vehicles, in order to be considerate for two-wheeler riders, to work on a stretch of 2 kilometers of road and complete it, rather than dug up everywhere, workmen posted on either side while working is underway, etc.
RNS Infra project manager K S Sanjeev Shetty agreed that it was due to the recklessness of workmen the toddler has died in a mishap. He also assured of visiting the bereaved family. He consented to heed to the demands of locals while executing the works.
