Bangalore: Asian Congress on St Teresa of Avila in Metro from Nov 28 to Dec 1

Bangalore, 6 Nov 2013: The Discalced Carmelites of India, represented by Inter Provincial Conference of India (IPCI) together with the Carmelite Family of India will be organizing ‘The Asian Congress’ in preparation for the fifth birth centenary of St Teresa of Avila, reformer of the Carmelite Order.
The Congress will be held at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram (DVK), here from Thursday November 28 to Sunday December 1. The theme of the Congress is ‘St Teresa Speaks to Asia.’
CBCI general secretary Archbishop Albert D’Souza of Agra along with other Bishops of Karnataka will inaugurate Congress here on Thursday November 28.
Dr Javier Sancho, OCD (CiTES, Avila, Spain) will deliver keynote address on the theme ‘Teresa and the Challenges of New Evangelization.’
Eminent scholars from India and abroad will address the gathering.
The concluding solemn Eucharistic Celebration will be presided by Most Bangalore Archbishop Dr Bernard Moras.
Briefing on the significance of this event to the Carmelites of India, IPCI president Dr Archibald Gonsalves said, ‘It is a land mark event in the history of Carmelites in India.’
Over 500 delegates of different Carmelite Congregations including members of secular Carmel will attend the Congress on the occasion.
