Mangalore: Third Edition of Wilfy Rebimbus inter-parish Konkani Singing contest Held

Mangalore, 4 Nov 2013: The third edition of Wilfy Rebimbus inter-parish Konkani singing contest that was organized by St Joseph’s parish, Jeppu, here in memory of legendary singer Wilfy Rebimbus, was held at Maria Jayanti Hall in Jeppu parish premises here on Sunday November 3.
All together, the contest witnessed 80 participants from 11 parishes of city deanery. The top 3 contestants in 8 categories will qualify for the finals which will be held on Sunday November 17.
Jeppu parish priest Fr Nelson Almeida inaugurated the contest, in the presence of ’Konkan Mynah’ famed Meena Rebimbus, Vishwas Rebimbus, Charleen Rebimbus, Jeppu parish council vice-president Pamella Santos and secretary Laveena Dias here on Sunday evening.
The dignitaries on the dais paid homage to Wilfy Rebimbus by lighting the lamp in front of his portrait.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Nelson Almeida said, ‘We started this annual inter-parish competition three years ago and we are happy that every year it has seen good success. Through this competition, not only do budding singers get a platform to showcase their talent, but aso get an opportunity to sing Wilfy’s songs. Wilfy Rebimbus continues to live among us, and this is proved by all the participants present here, from children to married couples,’ said Fr Nelson.
‘By singing Wilfy’s songs, the participants are paying a fitting tribute to the legend. All the songs of Wilfy carry a message, hence we are not only singing them but also spreading his message among people,’ added Fr Nelson.
Infant Jesus shrine superior Fr Pius D’Souza, technical guide in classical music Roshan Martis and Meena Rebimbus were the jurors of contest.
The competition was held in 8 categories - ages 10 years - 15 years boys’ solo and duet, girls’ solo and duet; above 15 gents’ solo, ladies’ solo and mixed duet; and married couples. The top 3 in each category will compete in the finals to be held on November 17.
Celine D’Souza and Philomena D’Souza compered the event. Laveena Dias proposed the vote of thanks.
