Udupi: Presence of Mind of Child Devt Officer saves 2 drowning Children

Udupi, 24 Oct 2013: Two little kids who were rescued from drowning by the presence of mind of Udupi taluk child welfare project officer along with accompanying staff at Katpady – Mattu, near here on Wednesday October 23.

 

 
Nine-year-old Shreyas and eleven-year-old Shravya, children of Renuka, a resident of Hebri and sister of Ramachandra Rao, residing nearby Vishnumurti temple, Mattu, near here were drowned while playing in the temple pond.

 

 
When the grandmother of children was crying for help, Udupi child development project officer Sadanand Nayak and Moodabettu Primary Health Centre (PHC) medical officer Dr Krishnamurti and assistant Laxmi were passing through the same route to Anganawady centre at Mattu at about 11.30am on Wednesday.

 

 
Sadanand Nayak instructed the driver of their automobile to stop and rushed to rescue the drowning children.  The driver managed to catch hold of the children whose bellies were bloated of swallowing water.  Dr Krishnamurti and assistant Laxmi offered first aid to the duos and asked the driver to admit at Hi-Tech Hospital in Udupi.

 

 
The children who have come to spend their holiday at their grandmother’s home were playing with the bicycle in their courtyard and were believed to have gone to the pond to wash their dirty hands, when they accidentally slipped and fell in the waters.

 
The child welfare officer in true sense saved the lives of drowning children, while the driver and the medical officer co-ordinated in this regard.  The locals lauded the presence of mind of all those involved in rescuing the children.
