Mangalore: Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti Celebrated in City

Mangalore, Oct 19, 2013 : Valmiki Jayanti celebrations will be meaningful, when we understand the works of Valmiki and make efforts to follow his ideals in life, said Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo.
MLA Lobo was speaking at the inaugural of Valmiki Jayanti celebrations that were organized by Dakshina Kannada (DK) district administration, zilla panchayat SC welfare department, Kannada and culture department and DK Valmiki Naika Association, at Netravati auditorium of zilla panchayat, here on Friday October 18 morning.
Ramayana, authored by contemporary sage Maharshi Valmiki has elaborate chapters on governing a nation, added MLA Lobo.
Mangalore north MLA Moideen Bava inaugurated the programme.
Mangalore University history Professor Dr Hanuma Nayak delivered a talk on Valmiki on the occasion.
The students of SC who secured over 85 percent of marks in II PUC exams were honored during the programme.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash,ADC Dayanand K A, zilla panchayat CEO Tulasi Maddineni, ITDP project co-ordinator Ahmed Mulla, Kannada and culture deputy director Chandrahas Rai and others were present on the occasion.
