Udupi: Old Students Association of Belle Church HP School organizes Volleyball and Throw-ball Tourn

Udupi/M’belle, 14 Oct 2013: Six teams each of men and women participated in the Volleyball and Throw-ball tournament organized by the Old Students Association of  the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle  as part of the Centenary Celebration on Sunday, 13 October 20013 from 9 am onwards.  In spite of heavy rains during the previous night and in the morning a large number of old students converged at the school ground to participate and witness the tournaments.

 

The tournament was inaugurated at 9 am in  a brief function that was presided over by Rev. Fr.  Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Rajendra Shetty, President of the Old Students Association welcomed the gathering. In his introductory remarks, Devdas Hebbar said that it is important for the old students to participate in such events and remember the childhood days that they had spent in the school learning lessons and playing various games. The old students should also remember that it was the primary and higher primary school teachers who had laid foundation of their successive education and career. He reminded the old students that on 29 December 2013, Old Students of the school will have a get-together  in the morning  with spot games followed by lunch and in the evening there will be stage function during which ‘Guruvandana’ programme will be held to honour the past and present teachers of the school.

 

In his presidential address, Fr. Joswey Fernandes appreciated the efforts of the Old Students Associaiton under the able leadership  of Rajendra Shetty, the present President of the Belle Grama Panchayat in organizing various activities including the Volleyball and Throw-ball tournament.  He further said that on the occasion of the Centenary Celebration of the school many project have been undertaken and the school  will have a better future.

 

Ronald Saby, representing Bellevision (UAE) inaugurated the tournament.  Gerald Fernandes, PTA President, Vincy Fernandes Secretary of the Sports Activities of the Old Students Association and Denis Martis, Joint Secretary  and Ida Gibba D’Souza  were on the dais. Maxim D’Sa compeered the programme, Mrs. Anita Alva and Mrs. Sujata Amin  sang the prayer hymn and Gerald Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks. Prominent old student such as  Commodore Jerome Castelino, Nagaraja Kamath, Mukunda Kamath and Benedict Martis, Convener of the Centenary Finance Committee were present during the inauguration of the tournament.

 

 

The matches played in a competitive temper with friendly spirit. There was overwhelming participation and enthusiasm of women in the tournament. Men’s teams also played their matches with professional touch.

 

Following the end of both Volleyball and Throw-ball matches the following  emerged as Winners and Runners Up:

 

1. Volleyball for Men:  Winners-Best Friends; Runners Up-Young Birds; Best Smasher- Melwyn of Best Friends
2. Throw-ball  for Women: Winners-Arbi Friends; Runners Up-Spark Friends; Best Player-Prajna of Spark Friends and Melita Quadros of Friends

 

The referees of the tournament were: Raviraj, Valerian Crasta and Bharat Shetty. The running commentary was provided by Sudhakar Poojary .

 

In a friendly Throw-ball match between the teams of Anil Alva and Mrs. Meera Lobo, Anil Alva’s team emerged victorious.

 

The prize distribution function was attended by Nagaraj Kamath, Gerald Fernandes, Chandrasshekar Alva-Manager of the Karnataka Bank, Vincent Fernandes, Denis Martis Rajendra Shetty and Mrs. Sujata Suvarna.  Maxim D’Sa compeered programme and Rajendra Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.

 

Old Students Meeting in Mumbai on 10 November 2013:

A meeting of the Old Students Association of the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle will be held at  Tunga Hospital Auditorium, Mira Road, Mumbai on Sunday, 10 November 2013 at 4.30 pm.  Rajendra Shetty, President of the Old Students Association, Gerald Fernandes, President of the PTA, Ivan D’Almeida, Sylvester Mathias, Headmaster and Vinod Castelino will participate in the meeting. The Old Students of the Church Aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle are requested to attend the meeting in large numbers.
