Mumbai, 5 Oct 2013: Supreme Court (SC) of India in its significant ruling on Friday October 4 stated that the voters have the right to deny all the candidates contesting in the elections.
SC further stated that if the voters are not convinced of the abilities of all the candidates contesting in the elections; they can either boycott the elections or instead of that they can cast their votes. SC also advised Election Commission of India (ECI) to make necessary changes in ballot papers or Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
The bench of SC led by Chief Judge P Sadashivam issued this verdict, wherein a voter can cast his vote denying all the candidates at the polling booth. It’s a wake up call for every political party because they ought to be careful in choosing their candidates who are tainted-free. SC ordered to incorporate negative voting in India as such facility exists in 13 nations of the world.
The secrecy should be maintained like other buttons in EVMs for negative voting, instructed SC to ECI.
