Mangalore: Hundreds of citizens walk for healthy heart on World Heart Day Celebrations

Mangalore, 29 Sep 2013: The department of cardiology and cardio-thoracic surgery of Nitte University and K S Hegde Hospital in association with Dakshina Kannada district chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) organized marathon walk on the occasion of World Heart Day celebrations here on Sunday September 29 morning.
The state health minister U T Khader flagged-off the marathon walk that began from Hotel Pentagon at Mahaveer roundabout, here and concluded at IMA building, Hampankatta, here.
The minister U T Khader the municipal commissioner Ajit Kumar Hegde S and Nitte University pro-chancellor Dr Shantaram Shetty also joined in marathon walk along with several people who enthusiastically participated throughout the stretch of run.
Speaking to media persons, minister Khader stressed on the importance of maintaining a healthy heart by jogging daily. He said through regular exercise, one can keep heart ailments at bay.
The minister Khader also assured grant of facilities for heart checkup once a year at the state-run Primary Health Centers (PHCs) for those above 3 years of age.
Hundreds of people including students and general public participated in the marathon walk on the occasion.
