Mangalore, 28 Sep 2013: ABVP led the massive protest rally of students from Dr B R Ambedkar roundabout here to DC office here on Friday September 27, seeking justice on the  mysterious death of eighteen-year-old Akshata, a second year B Com student of a college in Car Streetm gere.

Akshata was reported missing since Saturday September 21 and her body was found at the riverside in Bolar on Tuesday September 24.

Addressing the protesters, ABVP state organizing secretary Mahipal said, ‘Our country is witnessing rampant increase in sexual crimes against women. Although the women are in various prominent positions such as the ruling party’s chairperson, opposition party leaders, past president, chief ministers etc, the situation remains unchanged,’ said Mahipal

‘The present day government has failed to provide security to women. Political parties do not have a serious approach towards such gruesome crimes, instead they are busy in polarizing the society in the name of caste, creed, sect and religion.  The government should set up fast track courts as soon as possible. Once the guilt of the crime is proven the culprits should be hanged publicly, or else the government will have to face the wrath of the public and students,’ said Mahipal.

Ashwini, a city college student said, ‘Culprits are getting out of jail easily with just a bail; instead of sending them to the police, let the students manage these culprits with a better punishment,’ said Ashwini.

‘SDM College student Nivedita said, The heinous crimes against women are increasing by the day, government and police officials have failed to tackle and curtail the crimes against women,’ said Nivedita.

Besant Women’s College student Chandni said, ‘In primary school, we learn ‘we are Indians and all Indians are our brothers and sisters’. The culprits who commit rapes are not illiterate but they are of the educated class. They know how to commit a crime as well as to escape from it,’ said Chandni.

University College student Shamprasad said, ‘Justice has not done for Sowjanya who was brutally killed in Beltangady during 2012.  Today, a similar incident has happened with Akshata. There is no end to this type of injustice. Police have to immediately probe this matter,’ said Shamprasad.
