Udupi : Mumbai Based John D’Silva Foundation distributes Scholarship to Talented Students

Udupi, 10 Sep, 2013 : Mumbai based John D’Silva Foundation and Cathollic Sabha Udupi Pradesh ® jointly organized Pratibha Purashkar – 2013, talent recognition programme and felicitation function to honour one student from each parish of Udupi diocese who has secured highest marks in SSLC and one student from each deanery in the recently held CBSE examination, at Don Bosco Hall of Mother of Sorrows parish here on Monday September 9.
Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo presided the function here on Monday morning.
Udupi district deputy commissioner of excise George Pinto was the chief guest of the occasion.
John D’Silva Foundation chairman John D’Silva, Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh ® president Elroy Kiran Crasto, secretary Mary D’Souza, spiritual director Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, deanery vicar and Udupi parish priest Fr Fred Mascarenhas, programme convener Elcy D’Souza, Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh ® president Walter Cyril Pinto were present on the dais.
Gerorge Pinto in his inaugural address said, ‘Our community identified as running hospitals and schools etc., but we should have our representation in political and governmental organizations as well. We have the shortage of leadership. Parents should support their children to place into governmental jobs which now very badly needed for our society,’ said Pinto.
Speaking on the occasion, John D’Silva said, ‘Now-a-day’s children having strong support to study higher education than earlier days. So our children should make use of it, rather than working we should have our own entrepreneurship. We need stronger leadership in our society, so that Christian community needs to increase higher positions in the society,’ said D’Silva.
Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo said in his presiding address said, ‘Human virtues are essential in the life of every individual. In order to succeed in life one should have human qualities. The distribution of scholarship for the students will help them to succeed in their life. Education can change the personality and can change the society as well. He called the students study IAS, IPS and other governmental studies rather than engineering and medicine. It will help our community at large. He assured all help to study such courses of IPS, IAS, KAS etc. examinations. He also expressed his concern to set up funds for the sick and education which will help the community.
The programme began with invocation and welcome dance. Catholic Sabha central Committee president Kiran Elroy Crasta delivered the introductory address and welcomed the gathering. Mary D’Souza secretary proposed vote of thanks. Syla Fernandes and Evegin Lasrado compered the program.
Fifty-three students of Udupi diocese were awarded with scholarship and certificates on the occasion.
The parents of those students were also present during the programme.
