Karkal : Meet Sudhakar Acharya engaged in making Ganesha Idols out of Clay in Belman

Karkal, 06 Sep, 2013 : The public celebration of Ganeshotsav was the concept introduced by the late freedom fighter Balagangadhar Tilak, in order to rekindle the worship of Lord Ganesh and also patriotism among the Indians to wage struggle to liberate from British rulers. It’s the contemporary celebration in India attended by people of different faith, caste and creed.
The making of Ganesh idols out of clay begins 3 – 4 months ahead of Ganeshotsav. The sculptor Sudhakar Acharya owned Shilpa Wood Designing Works, located nearby Corporation Bank, Belman, near here has been making different varieties and sizes of Ganesha idols out of clay since the past 6 – 7 years. His brother Raghavendra Acharya also helps Sudhakar in pottery. ‘The demand has been steadily rising over the years,’ says Sudhakar.
The idols that are made at Shilpa Wood Designing Works are delivered to the respective customers only after offering Shilpa Poojana (Vishwakarma puja) on Gowri Tratia day morning. The natives of Inna, Bola, Vanjarakatte, Kedinje, Prince Point and other household families take home the idols of Ganesha to worship at their homes.
Sudhakar has the stock of Ganesha idols that is worth from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000 each.
Despite Sudhakar is busy in his work, he finds time to be involved in Jaycees, Yakshagana, Vishwakarma community organization, public Ganeshotsav, Vanjarakatte school betterment Committee.
