Udupi: Notorious rowdy escapes, wanted in 25 cases

Udupi, 28 Aug 2013: Notorious rowdy Nagaraj Balegar (30) managed to escape from the clutches of Police near Udupi railway station today when he was being brought from Trishur, Kerala to Udupi.
On Tuesday, August 27, two policemen had brought Nagraj from Trishur to Udupi by train. Nagraj was supposed to appear in the court for case hearing. The train arrived in the Station at 12 p.m and Nagraj was made to sit in the railway station until today morning. When he was being brought near Indrali, at 9.30 a.m,Nagraj is said to have pushed the Police and escaped to the nearby road.
Various cases pertaining to robbery and murder have been filed on Nagraj in Brahmavar and Hiriyadka Police stations. His brother Muthappa is also a rowdy. He is the accused in the murder of jain inmate Vinod Shettigar on January 14, 2011 at Anjar-Hiriyadka jail. In addition to today’s escape case a total of 25 cases are being filed on him in Karnataka and Kerala. Previously he is said to have escaped.
On October 18,2011, when he was being taken to Belgaum from Puttur he is said to have attempted to escape by sprinkling chillie powder into the eyes and biting the arm of Rama Naik, Sub Inspector. However as it was crowded place, people caught him. Few months ago he had escaped from Hubli Jail. In Kerala he had been caught in four theft cases, thus he was being brought to Udupi.
