M’lore: State Pollution Control Authority urges Devotees to worship earthen Ganesha Idol

Mangalore, 27 Aug 2013: The state Pollution Control Authority urged the people not to worship colored earthen Ganesha idols this year, as the idols made out of lead, zinc  and other poisonous substances will pollute the water bodies, when these idols were discharged in lakes, wells, water ponds and rivers.  It will endanger the waterborne creatures and also health hazard for humans too.

The state Pollution Control Authority secretary S M Puttubuddi stated to worship only earthen Ganesha idol applied with natural colors, because oil paint, artificial color and plastic likely to cause environmental damage, when the idols are immersed in water bodies.  The using of loudspeakers from 10.00pm to 6.00am will be banned.
