Mumbai: Prof Sitaram R Shetty Passes Away in Collapsing on Stage during a Programme in Metro

Mumbai,26 Aug 2013: Sixty-one-year-old Professor Sitaram R Shetty, the renowned poet, critic, teacher and lecturer passed away here on Sunday August 25 afternoon.  

 
Professor Sitaram Shetty was greeting the audience after being on the stage during eightieth programme of Dr G D Joshi at Pejavar mutt, Santacruz (West) when he collapsed but was at once rushed to the private clinic nearby.  He was later taken to V N Desai Municipal Hospital, where he breathed his last. 

 

 


Professor Sitaram R Shetty hailed from Inna village of Karkal taluk, in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka.  He served as professor in R J College, Somaiyya College and Hinduja College.  He served as honorary secretary of Karnataka Sangh – Mumbai.  He served as president of diamond jubilee celebration Committee of Kannada Sangh – Mumbai, secretary of Kannada Sahitya Parishat – Maharashtra unit, president of Thane Bunts Association, trustee of Chinnara Bimba, secretary of silver jubilee celebration Committee of Kalajagattu Mumbai.  He was the mentor for youth organizations and advisor for several community organizations in metro.  He was the proprietor of Ashith Printers tht published several books of veteran and budding litterateurs.  As a litterateur , he has authored Kannads books titled, Bartira Nammoorige, Dhoomaketu, Yene Helali, Ondu Shishuvina Apaharanada Kate, Ondu Shaleya Kate and others Tulu book - Kaljigada Drutaraste.  His columns were published in Karnataka Malla, Kannada daily, Nityavani, etc.  He had organized All India Story and Poets Meet in memory of his wife the late Susheela S Shetty.  He had close contact with veteran litterateurs.

The last rites of Professor Sitaram will be placed for public homage at his brother Shekar Shetty’s residence – Sriniat Towers, Sani Guruji Nagar, Mulund (East) on Monday August 26 at 4.00pm, after Professor Sitaram’s son Ashith Shetty arrives from abroad, followed by last rites at crematorium in Mulund (West), informed family sources.
