Dubai, 08 August, 2013 : Vishwakarma Seva Samithi supporting "Donate Blood save a Life Campaign’ as a part of their 2013 programme concluded ’Blood Donation’ during the holy month of Ramadan on Tuesday the 6th of August, 2013 at 8.30 PM onwards at Latifa Hospital (old Al Wasl Hospital) Dubai.

Donors came in large numbers voluntarily to participate in the event registered themselves in the counter smilingly donated blood and returning back with a promise of coming back after 3 months to again donate.  It was also nice to see young kids volunteering the donors in whatever way they could in the campaign.  Even women members of VKSS were busy in the registration table registering the names of the donors with details and distributing forms.

President Prashanth Acharya on behalf of the organization thanked the authorities for being tolerant and supportive in the campaign and promised more contribution to the Blood Bank in the near future.  It was also great to see Presidents, Office Bearers and Members of most of the regional Community Associations of Karnataka together in one place for this noble cause.

As per the Dubai Blood Donation Centre (DBDC), the need for blood is ongoing and must be met every day.  The demand for blood is growing faster than the collection rate and DBDC has been requested to have an instant response to the rapid growth in blood demand which is obviously proportionate to the fast growing population of the city along with healthcare facilities. DBDC is the only blood supplier in Dubai.  Its services extend to Thalassemia patients (Thalassemia Center at Al Wasl Hospital), road accident and burn victims (Trauma Centre at Rashid Hospital), patients with neonates and maternity health complications (Lathifa Hospital), cases diagnosed with cancer or scheduled for open heart operations (Dubai Hospital) as well as to all private health facilities within Dubai that are entitled for transfusion services.

Organisers distributed fruits and juices to all the participants.

I am against the idea of collecting a lot of blood on a single day for show! The collected blood, if not used on time, will be a waste!! Instead, they should take the contact no. of the donor and as and when required should call him for the donation; fresh blood is always better than the stored one!!!
