Mangalore, 6 Aug 2013: The All College Students’ Union formed a human chain and laid road blockade for nearly half-an-hour and protested against the carry-over system in polytechnic course, at Hampankatta here on Tuesday August 6. The students demanded justice by forming human chain on the road.
Addressing the protesters, the Union’s legal adviser Dinkar Shetty said, ‘From past 32 days polytechnic students have been protesting throughout the state against the present carry-over system. Students carried out peaceful protests, hunger strike and also submitted memorandums to the chief minister through deputy commissioners of respective districts. But the government has not shown any response in favour of students,’ said Dinkar.
Dinkar further said, ‘The present carry-over system puts the future of the students in jeopardy. Government is responsible for the death of Santosh Kumar in Udupi and should give Rs 5 lac as compensation to his family,’ said Dinkar.
Justice Ram Mohan Reddy’s verdict is in favour of students, but the government is not following the order. If the government fails to solve this problem, the All College Students’ Union will take the protest to the doorsteps of the chief minister and the education minister, cautioned Dinkar.
‘In future if any student commits suicide, the government will be held responsible. DTE board director H U Talwar is misleading the minister in this issue,’ said Dinkar.
The Union president Ramith Shetty, Vinay H J, Deekshith, Sachin Bangera, Ashwith B, Srilatha, Vinay, Lohith Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
