Properties worth Rs.24.14 lakhs returned to rightful owners

Mangalore, 08 August 2010: In past three months stolen properties  worth Rs 32.32 lakhs were confiscated by the district police of which, properties worth Rs 24.14 lakhs have been returned to the rightful owners following court procedures, informed Dr A Subhramanyeshwara Rao, SP, Dakshina Kannada district. Addressing mediapersons in a press meet at the SP’s office on Saturday, August 7, Rao said that as per the orders of the DGP and IGP, ‘Property Parade’ has to be conducted by the Department once in three months. This term’s property parade briefing was from the month of April to June.

 

The SP said that in the year 2010, people have lost properties worth Rs 1, 61, 32, 000 due to theft, of which, properties worth Rs.32.35 lakhs have been recovered so far. In the year 2008, Rs 3.13 crores were lost and Rs 1.44 crores was recovered i.e. 45% of the amount was returned. In the year 2009,  Rs 4.86 crores were lost of which Rs 1.28 crore was recovered, with 26% returns. This year the department has aimed at achieving 50% return of recovered properties, Rao said.

 

 

Giving details about the crime rates, Rao said that in the year 2008, two dacoity cases were reported. In the year 2009, again two cases were reported while in 2010, 1 case has been reported so far. While there were 3 cases of robberies in 2008, the number increased to 8 in 2009 and 6 2010.  Burglary cases registered in the year 2008 were 80, 111 in 2009 and 37 cases so far in 2010, the SP informed. Puttur Civil Rifle Training camps have been introduced at Puttur and Bantwal. While 48 people have been enrolled in Puttur, 30 members are participating in Bantwal.

 

The SP also informed that Police IT software will be introduced in all police stations and that the in-house communication will become paperless. Each police station would get four computers which would be connected through LAN with broadband connection to all police stations. Everyone in the police department from a constable to SP, will learn to operate this new IT software, Rao disclosed. Regarding Maduru Yusubu arrest in Riyadh, the SP said there has not been any official communication from Saudi Arabia.

As the police department keep achieving more percentage of recovery and return of property then these theives will get fed up and there will be no robbery.
