Mangalore : Cattle-Lifters active in limits of Suratkal Police Station; 5 Incidents reported in July

Mangalore, 02 August : Some unidentified cattle-lifters by brandishing swords robbed two cows from the household of a family, residing at Kana that comes at the limits of Suratkal police station, here on Wednesday July 31. It was the fifth such incident in just one month. It was learned that Suratkal police are hand in glouse with cattle-lifters.
The cattle-lifters arrived at the household of a certain poor Mahadevi, who is sustaining her family by the income from milking the cows and selling it locally, at about 3.30am on Wednesday July 31. When Mahadevi and her son woke up, when they heard cows running helter swelter in the cow-pen, they rushed to find five men, among whom three were pulling 2 high breed cows whilst 2 men brandishing swords. Both of them, fearing the armed men, fled while the men loaded the cows in a getaway Tata Suma 4WD and vanished from the scene.
Mahadevi at once called the police who arrived at the location within a short while, but were not able to intercept the Tata Sumo that has taken lanes to join the national highway.
The poor dairy farmer Mahadevi has lost her livelihood, besides 2 calves have become orphaned. It was the fifth incident that was reported in just one month at the limits of Suratkal police station. The night patrol policemen are capable of intercepting the automobiles illegally transporting cattle.
The cattle-lifters in the past tried to rob a few cows from the household of a certain Koragappa Poojary, residing at Sasihitlu, near here, a few days ago, while the Koragappa family thwarted the attempt. After the incident, Koragappa has erected a gate to the cow-pen and locks it every night.
Bajrang Dal alleges that the illegal transporting of cattle was curbed during the BJP led state regime, while it has further escalated during the present reign of Congress, allege Bajrang Dal.
