Bhopal : Jhansi Rani Laxmibai found Smoking Hukka in School Textbooks of MP

Bhopal, Jul 30 : Everyone knows the freedom fighter Jhansi Rani Laxmibai mounted in a horse holding a sword in her hand. Meanwhile, a picture of Laxmibai smoking hukka that is found in the textbook of Class V in Madhya Pradesh (MP) has created controversy.
The role of Laxmibai during the freedom struggle was elaborated in chapter 18 of social studies text book in Class V of CBSE, wherein Laxmibai was found smoking hukka. The students of Betul R D Public School who observed it, questioned their teacher whether Laxmibai was smoking hukka. The teachers realizing the blunder committed by the printer, informed the principal.
The principal brought this to the attention of Orient Black Swan, the publisher of text book with headquarter in Hyderabad. The publisher advised the distributors to replace the books at the earliest and regretted for the mistake that has caused resentment among the students.

| What is wrong with Rani Laxmibai smoking hukka and that picture is used in the book for Class V students who are in the age group 10-11. They have access to TV and internet content showing a lot more adult pastimes and addictions, which parents and teachers have to explain without running away or changing the subject or shoving it under the carpet. | |
