Karkal:Ustad Rafiq Khan Mesmerizes Audience with Melodious Music at Belman

Karkal, 25 Jul 2013: Saare jahanse accha…Hindustan hamara…….. the melodious music of internationally acclaimed sitar maestro Ustad Rafiq Khan played to the playback music of renowned musical instrumentalist 3 G K R Kumar, P K Santosh from Kannur in Kerala, Rajesh Bhagavat from Mulky, renowned guitarist Rajgopal – rendered symphony (jugalbandi) mesmerized the students. Mile… sur mera tumara.., Vande Mataram….and other patriotic music for nearly two-hour duration transpired the students to dream world of music, who cherished every moment as if the greatest of musicians staged a show just for them in their midst. There was sensation among the students, who savored each moment!!
This was the scene witnessed at St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Belman, here on Wednesday July 24, where the students of St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, St Joseph’s English Medium School and St Joseph’s High School were thoroughly enjoyed the real-time music in their midst.
This programme was staged by ‘Parichaya Vedike’ Pamboor, in Udupi district, which is striving to promote the different forms of arts and music of our nation, in association with Sangeeta Bharati Pratistan, Mangalore.
Ustad Rafiq Khan staged live demonstration of different Indian instrumental music, by explaining its background, rhythm etc and stressed on the need to practice music in order to maintain healthy attitude. At the internet era, the use of national music is losing its sheen; hence the greater need to foster it for future generation. It was just a small step in this regard, said Ustad Rafiq Khan.
Belman parish priest and schools correspondent Fr Lawrence D’Souza, Karkal block education officer Ravishankar Rao, physical education co-ordinating officer Babu Poojary, block resource person Jayanti Shetty, JCI – Belman president Raghunat Nayak Punaru, Belman gram panchayat former president Mallika Rao, RCI – Belman member Nerri Pinto, district primary school teachers Association secretary Laxmikant Bhat, students and their parents, teachers were present at the occasion.
Parichaya Vedike PRO B Pundalika Marate and chairman Anil D’Sa Shankarapura welcomed the gathering. The chief secretary Prakash Noronha Pamboor, member Lucas D’Souza Pamboor was present.
Fr Lawrence felicitated Ustad Rafiq Khan and his music group during the programme.
It was indeed a memorable musical extravaganza that enthralled one and all.
