Mangalore: Record Number of Container Vessels call at NMPT

Mangalore, 8 Jul 2013: For the first time New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) witnessed the arrival of 3 container vessels, M V Oel Kutch, M V Noble Breeze and main line vessel M V Kota Nebula here on July 4. 

The main line container vessel of M/s Pacific International Lines (PIL) – M V Kota Nebula from East Africa (Port Matwara) is the fourth main line vessel which called at NMPT during the current financial year.  NMPT has handled containerized cargo of 13,595 TEUs during the current year 2013 -14 so far, as against 13,073 TEUs handled during the corresponding period of last year with a growth of 4 percent.

 

NMPT chairman P Tamilvanan stated that the increase in the number of container vessels and traffic is the result of pro-active business drive initiative of NMPT.  He has expressed happiness over the overwhelming response from the main line operators and users by tapping the advantageous position of lesser transit time and lesser handling cost.  ‘From a humble beginning with 1 vessel during 2007 – 08, now it is the thirty-fifth main line vessel calling at the port,’ added Tamilvanan.

 
Tamilvanan congratulated the officers, staff, workers and union leaders for their co-operation in achieving 12.27 percent growth in overall traffic during the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2013 – 14.
