Mangalore: Kanara Catholic Educational Co-Op. Society Distributes Scholarship to Deserving Students

Mangalore, 8 Jul 2013: The city based Kanara Catholic Educational Society (KCES) organized scholarship distribution programme for the community’s needy students at Catholic Centre, here on Sunday July 7 morning.

Dr Norbert Lobo was the chief guest of the occasion.

The Society president Rudolph D’silva, honorary secretary Lawrence Pinto, directors Ullhas Prabhu, Anthony M Saldanha, Joseph D’Souza, George Rodrigues, Adeline Machado and Judith Mascarenhas were present at the dais.

The scholarship was distributed to 103 students, out of which 70 were from primary and 33 were from high school.  They hailed from 22 Kannada medium schools of Mangalore diocese.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

KCES was inaugurated on July 24 1945 at MCC Bank premises in the presence of large gathering.  Bishop Dr U R Fernandes of Mangalore diocese presided the function.  M S Shrestha was the first president.  Rao Sahib A M Monteiro was the first vice president and Major W E Mascarenhas was the secretary and treasurer.  The retired judge J S Saldanha elected as legal advisor.  Since then, the Society deserves encouragement in its splendid work of enabling deserving youth of inadequate means of Catholic community to obtain secondary, collegiate, professional and technical education.

During the course of its 68 years, the Society had advanced loans amounting to Rs 21,83,300 to 479 students out of this amount of Rs 21,06,717 has been repaid by 467 and a sum of Rs 76,583 is outstanding against 12 students.  There are 1,267 members in the Society. 

Education Aid:

Since 1984, a sum of Rs 7 lac has been collected from the well wishers and members of the Society.  The amount collected is distributed to above 900 deserving Catholic students.
