M’lore: One killed, 5 Injured as Train Rams Mini bus at Adyar

Mangalore, 30 Jun 2013: One person was killed and 5 persons were injured when a train rammed a mini bus at an unmanned railway crossing near Adyar Katte here on Sunday June 30.
The incident occurred near Adyarkatte, here on Sunday morning. A goods train bound to Hassan rammed the mini bus that was carrying six passengers in an unmanned railway crossing. As a result the bus rolled into a nearby gorge. All the passengers including the driver were rushed to the hospital. One passenger died en route to hospital.
The deceased has been identified as sixty-year-old Zuleika. The injured are driver fifty-one-year-old Harish, thirty-five-year-old Mamtaz Beguam, twenty-five-year-old Waseem, forty-year-old Thahira and eight-year-old Noor Medha. The injured have been admitted in Father Muller Hospital.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) N Prakash and MLA Moideen Bava and others visited the spot. Later, the DC N Prakash visited the critically injured at the hospital.
The locals said that despite the repeated pleas to railway department and civic body to erect gates at the unmanned railway crossing and appoint a guard; it was not fulfilled, owing to which the tragedy occurred. Such tragedies are occurring since the past 3 years.
They urged the concerned authorities to take early actions to avoid recurrence of such tragedies in the future, urged the locals.
