Mangalore, Jun 26: Akhila Bharata Vidhyarthi Parishat (ABVP) staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on June 25, urging the state education department to appoint guest lecturers at Government Pre-University College, here.
Earlier, a protest rally was held from Dr Ambedkar roundabout, passing through Hampankatta, A B Shetty roundabout and concluded near Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Addressing the protesters, ABVP state secretary Ramesh said that, in government P U colleges there are no lecturers to teach the students, and almost 12 days have passed and still no lecturers are appointed. The Mangalore University had announced the results first in the state and re-opened the colleges on time which is appreciated, said Ramesh.
Ramesh further said that for the past 12 days, students come to the college but go home without any learning, since there are no lecturers. All this time the college was appointing guest lecturers for teaching benefits of the students, but this year there are no signs of guest lecturers. Government has been appointing lecturers online, but so far there have been no new appointments of guest lecturers. Students spend more than Rs 30 to 40 daily towards travel/food expenses by coming to college, but they go back without learning, since no classes are held. Each semester is held in every 16 weeks and students have already wasted 12 days without any lectures, added Ramesh.
ABVP urges the state pre-university education department to appointment guest or regular lecturers to all the government colleges and help the students in pursuing their education.
ABVP city secretary Yathish Kumar P and students from various colleges took part in the protest.
