Karkal: Vanamahotsav Celebration worthwhile by each Committing to grow a Tree; Tantri

Karkal, 25 Jun 2013: The kings who ruled in the country were growing trees besides the roads, in spite of dense forests. Meanwhile, the democratically ruled regime fells the trees that lies on the roads. The afforestation is solely contributing for environmental disaster. If each one commits to nurture a plant to grow as a tree, then ‘Vanamahotsav’ celebrations will be fruitful, said the retired teacher Kodimar Vittal Tantri.
Vittal Tantri was speaking after inaugurating ‘Vanamahotsav’ programme held at St Joseph’s Higher Primary School, Belman, near here on Friday June 21. It was organized by Belman – Rotary Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Belman sub-division forest officer Nagesh urged the people to grow more trees in their households.
Rotary district former assistant governor B Pundalika Marate explained the significance of ‘Vanamahotsav’ at the occasion.
Rotary zone 2 assistant governor Madhav suvarna, Belman parish council vice president Gregory Menezes conveyed best wishes. Sushma R Kulal also spoke at the occasion.
St Joseph’s School head teacher Sr Monica, English Medium School head teacher Janet D’Souza, Rotary community service director Alwyn Nerri Pinto was present at the dais.
The entrepreneur Devendra Shetty, Suresh Rao, Sunil Devadiga were also present.l
Belman – Rotary president Suryakant Shetty Nandalike welcomed the gathering. Rotary secretary Vignesh Shenoy proposed vote of thanks. The teacher Vincent Pinto compered the programme.
