Moodubelle: Students stage protest against the gang rape of medical student of Manipal

Moodubelle, 24 Jun 2013: Students and staff members of St. Lawrence Educational institutions participated in the protest against the gang rape of the medical student of KMC in Manipal few days back and the failure of the administration to arrest the culprits and bring them to justice. Students of St. Lawrence Degree College, St. Lawrence PU College and Kannada Medium High School and St. Lawrence English Medium High School participated in the protest on Monday, June 24, 2013.
Speaking at the protest meeting Mrs. Shyamala B.N., lecturer in Economics said that such incident that had happened in the district of Udupi is shameful and shocking. The administration, especially the police should immediately arrest the culprits and being them to justice and give exemplary punishment so that such incidents will never take place anywhere.
Joy Fernandes, College Pupil Leader (CPL) said that there is lack of honest and sincere police. He hoped that the police officers will investigate the case thoroughly and get the culprits and prevent such incidents in future. Then only it can be said that we have real independence.
An appeal to this effect drawn by the students and staff of St. Lawrence PU College, Moodubelle addressed to the higher police officials was submitted to the President of Belle Grama Panchayat.
The students of Jnanaganga PU College, Nellikatte, in an appeal to district officials presented through the President of Belle Grama Panchayat denounced the act of the anti-social elements and urged the the government should take quick steps to apprehend the rapists of the KMC Meddical student and bring them to justice.
