Symposium on the awarness and prevention of Dengue and Malaria

Udupi, 29 July 2010:  Recently a symposium on the awareness and control of  dengue and malaria was jointly conducted by the News Department, Udupi, District Health Department and Shri Narayanaguru English Medium School in the school hall. Speaking at the symposium, the  Udupi District Health and Family Welfare Director, Dr. Ramachandra Bayari said that Malaria, dengue and chikangunya causing mosquitoes  spread the diseases from one person to the other and the symptoms of these diseases are severe fever, eyes turning read, muscular and severe joint pain etc.   He pointed out that whoever finds these symptoms they should immediately report to the primary health centres near their residence.

Dr. Sitaram Shetty, the Malaria officer of Udupi District said that parents should teach their children how they can protect themselves from the mosquito bite and also prevent the breeding of mosquitoes by cleaning the surroundings of the house and not allowing water stagnation.

The symposium was inaugurated by  Pandurang Malpe, member of the Udupi Municipality. Speaking at this occasion he also urged the people to keep their environment clean as during the rainy season people become victims of many contagious diseases. Vijaya Kunder and Suresh Shetty- members of the Udupi Municipality, Kusha M. Bangera, secretary of  Shri Narayanaguru English Medoum Managing Committee were present for the symposium. Udupi News Department officer M. Junjanna explained the objectives of the News Department and welcomed the gathering. K.R. Dayaram, the headmaster of Shri Narayanaguru English Medium School proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Arunabai, teacher of the school compeered the programme.
