Mangalore, 13 Jun 2013: MLA J R Lobo held discussions with ESI officials, the office bearers of Akhila Bharata Karmika Sangh ® and personnel at ESI Hospital, Shivabagh, here on Thursday June 13, in order to address the grievances of thousands of workmen working in different sectors across the Dakshina Kannada (DK) district.

Akhila Bharata Karmika Sangh ® Karnataka state chief secretary Sudatta Jain Shirtady, ESI director Ashok Kumar, ESI Hospital director Dr Rehmanis were involved in the discussion with MLA Lobo on various issues: urging the union government to govern ESIC, to form a Committee comprising 2 representatives of labour union, ESI commissioner, municipal officer and local MLA, to avail KSRTC bus services to transport workmen rather than get contract carriage of lesser passenger capacity from private enterprise, to administer medicines by the doctors rather than prescribe to get from dispensary, to appoint more doctors (22 doctors is the necessity, while there are only 6 doctors serving in ESI Hospital in city) in order to make it peoples-friendly state-owned healthcare facility, to upgrade dental facility, to extend ESI facilities to all workmen employed in all taluks of DK district.

It’s significant that MLA Lobo with his pro-people activities was concerned of ESI facilities in DK, whereas the former MLAs were hitherto restricted to a brief visits and nothing was really achieved in addressing the grievances of thousands of workmen.
ESI director Ashok Kumar said that the enterprises can register their employees for ESI benefits in the city as a new office is likely to function in the city shortly.  It would be a boon to enterprises that had to forward their application to Bangalore office.

MLA Lobo assured the ESI beneficiaries that he would earnestly follow up on addressing their grievances with concerned department officials till they are resolved at the earliest.
