Udupi: Councilors urge TP to Release State-Funds in Completing Basava & Indira Awaz Housing Projects

Udupi, 29 May 2013 : The council members urged Taluk Panchayat (TP) administration in order to release state-funds that are withheld for Basava and Indira Awaz housing projects, owing to code of poll conduct will be released at the earliest.
Addressing the gathering, council member Devdas Hebbar said that the state funds are released in time to complete different housing projects of both state and union government. The works are abruptly stopped while the beneficiaries are in great difficulty. The monsoon also set in causing misery. The funds were not released owing to code of poll conduct and it’s not been released even after the recently held assembly elections, said Hebbar.
The opposition members Umesh Naik, Dr Sunita Shetty, Veronica Carneleo and others supported Hebbar over this issue.
The taluk panchayat CEO D Manjunatayya said that the issue has been discussed with higher officers and the funds will be released in 3 to 4 days, said Manjunatayya.
Veronica Cornelio raised the issue of ration cards and opposed the state circular instructing the taluk administration to assign a government staff while in the process of adding new names in ration cards. The concerned officer expressed his helplessness over the issue as the taluk administration had to follow the circular. He further said that the proposal is under way to contract an agency in gram panchayat in order to take pics of families applying for ration cards, said Manjunatayya.
The newly-elected MLA Pramod Madwaraj arrived at the venue for the first time to attend the meeting. The taluk panchayat president welcomed MLA Pramod and briefed on the housing issue and irregularities in allotting state funds.
The taluk panchayat vice president Rama Kulal, the steering Committee president Divakar Hegde was present at the dais.
