Mangalore: First Cargo Service Begins from City Airport

Mangalore, 25 May 2013: J T Radhakrishnan, director of Airport Authority of India (AAI) at Mangalore International Airport flagged off the first cargo flight that departed from here on Thursday May 23.
The Air India Express (AIE) operates commercial flights to Dubai, Doha –Qatar, Muscat – Sultanate of Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Dammam – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while the cargo services can give fillip to exports from coastal district, said Radhakrishnan.
The first cargo flight carrying a payload of machinery spare parts by the exporter the city based Rodrick’s Exports through its clearing agents - Atlas Logistics took-off from Old Terminal Building here on Thursday.
Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) president Mohammed Amin, assistant customs commissioner B Srinivas Pani, AIE city station manager Melvyn D’Silva, KCCI honorary secretary Rammohan Pai Maroor, Vishwanat Prabhu, Atlas Logistics city branch manager Ramachandra Kulai, Tilakraj Shetty, CISF officer Irfan Ahmed and others were present at the occasion.

Opening of Cargo service from Mangalore is welcome but what abut freight charges on Passenger luggage? why it is so reduced that they have to send through Cargo? making life still miserable. Very Unwise move by aircraft authorities. they must reverse it to earlier rates. |
