M’lore: City won’t face Scarcity of Drinking Water, as Thumbe Vented Dam has 13 Feet Wat

Mangalore, 17 May 2013 :  MLA J R Lobo on Friday May 17 visited the low-level pumping station at Thumbe, in Bantwal taluk, which supplies drinking water to city.

MLA Lobo ruled out any shortage of drinking water supply even in case of delay in monsoon, because the Thumbe vented dam has 13 feet water that can last for nearly 2 months, besides the dam constructed by A M R Power at Shamboor in the vicinity also has plenty of water stored already, which can be released as and when it required.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MLA Lobo also viewed the ongoing construction of new vented-dam at Thumbe.  Nearly 40 percent of work on this new vented-dam has been completed.  The municipal body has sufficient funds to complete the project, while the delay in presenting the bill for the part of completed works in turn delayed the payment to the said contractor.

The water supply in the city was affected for a few hours in the past week, when the major pump developed technical snag, which was restored within a day, with another standby pump working all through.  The water supply was affected towards Panamboor, when a major pipeline burst at Fourth Mile, near Kuloor, here which was restored in record time within 10 hours.  The supplies to Panamboor neighbourhood face difficulty owing to power cuts.  

The municipal commissioner Dr Harish Kumar, the executive engineer Jayaprakash, junior engineer Richard D’Souza, Bejai corporator Lancelot Pinto, Karnataka Urban Water Supply assistant executive engineer Sriranga, junior engineer Shekar, T K Sudhir and others were present at the occasion.
