Manglore: Konkani Natak Sabha to celebrate 50 Years of organizing Konkani Singing Competition

Mangalore, 17 May  2013 : The city based Konkani Natak Saha that had begun Konkani singing competition since 1965 has proposed to organize unique singing competitions to mark golden jubilee celebrations shortly, said the Sabha chief secretary Sunil Menezes.

 

Addressing the media persons here on Thursday May 16, Sunil Menezes said that Konkani Natak Sabhawas established during 1943 in order to promote Konkani and its distinct culture has continued its mission with vigor.  The talented musicians were emerged out of Mangalore diocesan level Konkanisinging competition, added Sunil Menezes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

he singing competitions to mark the golden jubilee will be held in different parishes on deanery level and concluded with semi final and final.  Accordingly, the first stage of competition will begin at Puttur deanery on May 19 and concluded at Episcopal deanery on July 21.  The semi final of children’s singing competition will be held on August 4, senior’s semi final on August 11, the mega final of children and senior will be held at Don Vosco Hall, here on September 15.  The prizes will be distributed along with golden jubilee trophy to the parish that gets the highest points, besides individual first, second and third prizes, said Sunil Menezes.

 

Konkani Natak Sabha president Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza, vice president Dolphy Saldanha, treasurer Prem Lobo were present at the press meet.

The Categories of the Competition are as follows:

Below 10 years – Solo, duet and mixed group

10-15 years – Solo, Duet and mixed group

Above 15 years – Ladies Solo, Gents solo, Ladies duet, Gents duet, Ladies and gents mixed group and Married couple.

Selection round Deanery level compeition:

19.05.2013 – Puttur Ward, 02.06.2013-Pejar Ward, 09.06.2013-Moodbidri Ward, 16.06.2013- Kasargod Ward and Belthngady Ward, 23.06.2013-Kinnigoli Ward, 30.06.2013-Bantwal Ward, 07.07.2013- Mangalore South Ward, 14.07.2013-City Ward and 21.07.2013-Episcopal City Ward.

The first two places in each category of competition will qualify for the semifinal.

The Semi Final is on 04.08.2013 for children and 11.8.2013 for adults at Don Bosco Hall, Mangalore.

Brief History:

In the year 1943, the Konkani Natak Sabha was founded by Rev. Fr George Albuquerque Pai, S.J. and nurtured by the strenuous labours of Rev. Fr Philip Neri OFM, Cap. with the singular objective of spreading human values and empowering Konkani culture through song, music, art, drama, dance and language. All along the Konkani Natak sabha has dedicated itself for Konkani drama, Konkani language and Konkani culture. The motto of the Konkani Natak Sabha ‘Nataka Dwarim Dharmik Sadhan’ (service through stage) put forward by the founders, speaks of the high intent they and the society at large had.

Having served the Canara districts since last seventy years, the Konkani Natak Sabha will be celebrating its seventieth anniversary (Septuagennial celebrations) this year. Apart from staging Dramas, the Sabha in its life time has conducted useful Inter Parish competitions, such as Singing, Elocution, Dance-Drama, Poetry (Recital as well as writing) etc. This has resulted in development of talents of children and adults, men and women. One can, today, find many of the literatures and personae dramatis gratefully referring to the useful motivation they received from the Konkani Natak Sabha.

The Golden Singing compeition will be conducted in the initiative of Golden Singing Competition committee headed by the President of the Sabha Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza, Capuchin, Dolphy Saldanha- Vice President, Sunil Menezes-General Secretary, Lynette P. Kamath-Joint Secretary, Prem Lobo- Treasurer, members-Adolpus Cutinha, Raymond D’Cunha, Felix Sequeira and Jossy Theodore in association with Managing committee.
