M’lore: Elected Congress MLAs Felicitated during Mega Convention of Catholic Sabha at Surathkal

Mangalore, 13 May 2013: Catholic Sabha is a key organization of laities.  Its yeomen service makes headlines in both state and national media.  Therefore, the activities of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh ® should nod be restricted to Mangalore and Udupi dioceses, instead it has to be extended across the state and nation, said Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo of Udupi diocese.


 
Bishop Dr Gerald Lobo was speaking after inaugurating annual convention of Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh ® at Suratkal parish, here on Sunday May 12 morning.


 
Bishop Dr Gerald urged the Catholic Sabha to take leadership in preparing community youth in appearing for competitive exams of both state and union, which would give fillip to the progress, urged Bishop Dr Gerald.

 


 
Speaking on the occasion, Suratkal parish priest Fr Antony Lobo said that the unity in diversity is essential for sustenance of any organization, said Fr Lobo. 


 
Bishop Dr Gerald conferred Succor of Downtrodden Award to Souharda Trust chairman Eric Correa for donating houses to poor regardless of caste, creed and faith; Seon Ashram chairman U C Paulose for caring the mentally challenged during the programme.


 
Bishop Dr Gerald also felicitated Mangalore south newly-elected Congress MLA J R Lobo, Mangalore north newly-elected Congress MLA Moideen Bava and Byndoor newly-elected Congress MLA Gopal Poojary at the same occasion.  The Congress veteran leader Oscar Fernandes was also present.


 
Bishop Dr Gerald released audio CD of Konkani movie ‘Angelina’ produced by A J Production.


 
The central Catholic Sabha spiritual director Fr J B Crasta  released the handbook of e-mail IDs Catholic Sabha units of Mangalore diocese and deaneries at the same occasion.


 
All India Catholic Union Karnataka state president Monte Fernandes in his keynote address said, ‘the laities have to play key role in the church.  Meanwhile, the community will flourish in the co-ordinated efforts of both religious and laities,’ said Fernandes.


 
The plantations department assistant director Pradeep D’Souza in his chief guest’s address urged the community youth to join civil service in serving the nation.


 
The trophies were presented to winners of elocution competition that was organized by Catholic Sabha and honored the top activists in each deanery and unit.
