Udupi, 26 Apr 2013: BJP leaders have been claiming that they have done during their five years of rule what the Congress had not done during the previous five decades. We agree to what they say. We pledge never to repeat what the BJP government in the state did. We will not run the government on the lines of BJP. Our aim will be to provide what the people want, not satiate our own ends, said veteran Congress leader Oscar Fernandes.

Addressing the public meeting of election campaign held at Chittaranjan Circle here on Wednesday April 24, Oscar said that Rahul Gandhi will take up the responsibility of leading the party in the next general election and paving way for rebuilding of the nation. ‘The victory of the party in the assembly election of Karnataka will be the beginning point in the path of the party’s successes,’ said Oscar.

Oscar further said that the manifesto brought out by Congress party is pro-poor and common people-friendly. ‘If we come to power, we will install dialysis machines in all the health centers in taluk headquarter and provide free treatment to the poor. The development of Malpe and Mangalore city, encouraging skilled craftsmen by setting up Vishwakarma Development Corporation, etc are some of the programmes before us, emphasized Oscar.

Oscar said that the prime focus of his party is on achieving progress of the nation rather than winning the election. He said during the next ten years, in addition to increasing the number of rich people in the country, the party’s vision is to ensure that the poor people also become richer, during the next ten years. ‘Our aim is to empower the poor,’ he analyzed.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) secretary M A Gafoor, Brahmavar block Congress Committee president Birti Rajesh Shetty, women’s Congress district presidentVeronica Carnelio, Blossom Ferandes, and other local leaders were present.

Earlier, a walkathon was led by the party from Jodukatte through Diana Circle and service bus stand to the venue at Chittaranjan Circle.
