Udupi: DC Dr Reju Briefs Media on Preparations for Free & Peaceful Voting in Upcoming Elections

Udupi, 20 Apr 2013: The Election Commission has set a target of achieving 80 percent voters turnout in the Udupi district at the upcoming assembly election.  The efforts are made to include the government staff engaged on election duty to exercise their votes by postal voting.  SWEEP – programmes are being held to encourage more number of voters in exercising their precious franchisee, said district election officer and DC Dr M T Reju.


DC Dr Reju was speaking at the preliminary meet on upcoming assembly elections held at zilla panchayat auditorium, here Friday April 19, said that all the measures are undertaken by the district administration to hold free and peaceful voting on Sunday May 5, assured Dr Reju to the election observers.

 


Under breach of poll conduct, 8 complaints were received, out of which 3 cases were registered under IPC and RP Act, besides 14 liters of liquor has been recovered, added Dr Reju.


SP Dr Boralingaiah said that out of 1,038 polling centers; 58 are identified as most sensitive, among them 52 polling centers are located in naxal affected 20 villages.  Fifteen platoons of Central Reserve Force, 4 platoons of KSRO and ANF will be deployed on election duty.  The police nodal officers are appointed in 5 legislative assembly constituencies of Udupi district.  Besides, 99 percent of arms owned by private individuals are already deposited for safe custody, said Dr Boralingaiah.


Udupi legislative assembly election observer  P K Mohanti, Kaup legislative assembly election observer Karan Singh Chowhan, Karkal legislative assembly election observer Prakash Kumar, Kundapur legislative assembly election observer T K Chowbe, Byndoor legislative assembly election observer S C Rahat Gaonkar, district police election observer M C Sarangan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar were present at the press meet.
