Manglore, 07 Apr 2013: Fresh election controversies in Mangalore lead supporters of congress party worker, Ivan Dsouza to protest against Congress leaders.

Supporters of Congress party worker, Ivan D’Souza staged a protest in front of district congress office, Mangalore against their leaders Janardhan Poojary, Oscar Fernandes and Veerappa Moily, the high command and against entrepreneur Ronald Colaco for not granting party ticket to Ivan D’Souza in the upcoming legislative body election here on Saturday.

.
The supporters who gathered raised slogans against the senior leaders and alleged that the party ticket had been sold for money of entrepreneurs.

Former mayor, Ashraf addressing the protesters said that, “Ivan D’souza is the one who has worked for the welfare of the party. He was the one who has capacity to unite a large number of youth and build the party and make it strong and steady," he said.

"The Congress leaders Janardhan Poojary, Oscar Fernandes and Veerappa Moily have caused injustice to the genuine and hard working party workers. D’Souza has to be the next MLA candidate," he demanded.

He further questioned the high command on the reasoning behind granting an election seat for J R Lobo.

Disappointed protestors also burnt an effigy of Ronald Colaco.

Vinod and Santhosh, please take opinion of common man those approached Ivan for getting some job done. You may change your opinion. May be for the same reason Congress wants to avoid future headache. According to many people in Mangalore anyone contest against Ivan would win. JR Lobo is experienced adminstrator, clever and corruption free candidate. JR lobo has better chances of winning compared to other ticket aspirants of Congress. JR lobo will not show silly behaviour against party unity.

I began constituency-wise studies on voter behavior and preferences for twin coastal districts. I will be indebted to readers if they can provide critical information such as numbers of registered and likely voters in this constituency, and community-wise, caste-wise, and other ethnicity-wise breakdown of these numbers. It is interesting to find out why Congress has reserved it for Catholic contestants since my days in the city in the late sixties. It is also interesting to find out how BJP snatched victories four consecutive times with a Brahmin candidate? And so on...

Vinod, sitting in USA you may not be knowing ground reality. Please do not under estimate noble person like JR Lobo and his credibility of a mountain. Congress has chosen a wise Man for the job rather than a losing candidate without any bright image. Please do not be under he impression that all youth are great leaders and non corrupt.

Nothing against J R Lobo, but why Congress decides to plant candidates from nowhere come election season and then rue they don't have grass root workers after suffering defeat? Rahul Gandhi had asked to give priority to loyal workers when he visited Maharashtra recently. On one hand Rahul Gandhi talks about building grass root democracy; at the same time Congress gives assembly ticket to someone who just joined Congress less than year ago. Now one pertinent question here: does J R Lobo have enough support in his own party? Does the party consult local existing leaders before making such appointment? We need good leaders and not just Christian leaders as tokenism. J R Lobo may yet turn out to be one such leader, but the process of giving assembly ticket lacks clarity and breeds doubts in the minds of congress workers. Ivan D'Souza has been the face of Congress party in Mangalore, and denying ticket to Ivan is nothing but injustice to his hard work.
