Mangalore: DCC launches publicity campaign for Forthcoming Assembly elections

Mangalore, 19 Mar 2013: The Congress party launched its publicity campaign for the forthcoming legislative assembly elections during mega convention of party activists at Nehru maidan here on Monday March 18 evening.


The union petroleum minister Veerappa Moily, AICC general secretary Oscar Fernandes, KPCC general secretary Ivan D’Souza Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC) president Ramanat Rai, MLAs U T Khader and Abayachandra Jain, Udupi – Chikmagalur MP Jayaprakash Hegde, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake,  DK district youth Congress president Mithun Rai, K S Mohammed Masood, the former state minister Vasath V Salian, local Congress leaders Moideen Bawa, Ibrahim Kodijal, Shakunthala Shetty, Mamatha Gatti, Vijay Kumar Shetty, J R Lobo, Ashith Pereira, Arun Coelho, G A Bawa, Udupi District Congress Committee (DCC) president M A Gafoor, Padmanabh Naringana,  B H Khader, Sadashiva Ullal, Sriram Patje, Ashraf, Nagendra and others were present on the dais.

 

All the dignitaries inaugurated the mega convention of DCC by lighting the lamp.

 

Dakshina Kannada DCC district Urban Local Bodies (ULB) poll overseer Janardhan Poojary officiated the oath-taking ceremony of all Congress candidates who have won the civic polls, and also all those who have submitted their nomination papers for the forthcoming legislative assembly elections during the programme.

 

Speaking on the occasion, minister Veerappa Moily thanked party activists in securing major victory to Congress in the ULB elections. He also urged them to be responsible at all times and maintain uncorrupt character.

 

‘If all these points are adhered to, then the public will surely accept, respect and choose Congress in the forthcoming elections as well. No Congress leader should fall prey to operation Lotus of BJP that is reigning in Karnataka, instead we should join hands to demolish that operation from the root,’ said minister Moily.

 

 

  ‘Public need freedom from caste discrimination, corruption and other evils deep rooted in the society. Congress has full power to uproot all these evils. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was the first to initiate the anti-corruption drive by means of Lokpal Bill. She is the one who has always been against gender discrimination, crime against women and has taken serious steps to prevent the same, said minister Moily.

 

Oscar Fernandes said, ‘Congress manifesto shouldn’t remain as just a manifesto, appropriate steps have to be taken to fulfill the promises. All the newly-elected corporators have enhanced the image of Congress. The ULB results are a clarion call to prepare for the forthcoming legislative assembly elections,’ said Oscar.

 

B Ramanath Rai welcomed the gathering. Ibrahim Kodijal proposed vote of thanks.

 

A large number of party activists from across Dakshina Kannada district participated in the mega convention.
