Udupi: Town Police Detain District Armed Reserve Policeman for Alleged Misbehavior

Udupi, 13 Mar 2013: A police personnel serving in District Armed Reserve (DAR) lodged a complaint with Superintendent of Police (SP) here on Tuesday March 12, alleging that the town police on night patrol assaulted him badly. Thirty-three-year-old Srikar has been working in DAR since the past 13 years.
The night patrol policemen accosted Srikar who was chatting with his friends nearby Janardhan Hotel, here at 11.30pm on Saturday March 9. There was a minor altercation between the policemen and Srikar, by then Hoysala – the police van arrived and he was taken to town police station. Srikar has alleged that the police officer and policemen have beaten him mercilessly, complained Srikar to SP.
‘I was abused by police at town station because of my scheduled caste background. I was presented before the judge on Sunday March 10. The court granted anticipatory bail on Monday March 11 and I was admitted to district Government Hospital with the help of my family on Tuesday March 12,’ complained Srikar to SP.
The town police informed that they found Srikar was fully drunk and was hindering the night patrol police in discharging their duties. They have registered a case after arresting Srikar, informed police sources.It was also learned that Srikar was arrested and taken legal action 3 times in the past by the police for his excesses to department discipline.
