Kundapur,12 Mar 2013: The civic polls that were held here on Thursday March 7 for town council did not get clear majority for both national parties – Congress and BJP. Out of the total of 23 wards, BJP secured 12 seats while Congress and CPI (M) together secured 11 seats.
BJP activists have taken a victory procession in the city and burst fire crackers, when they were leading in poll-count, but abruptly halted when the final results were announced. Meanwhile, Congress party activists also held a victory procession and burst fire crackers, while the general public was confused of poll-outcome.
BJP secured majority in 15 wards during the last civic polls. The alliance between Congress and CPI ( M) bagged 11seats, thereby restrained BJP’s scope in securing majority during this civic polls. It’s during the last polls, Congress secured 4 seats, CPI (M) secured 2 seats, independent candidate and JDS secured 1 seat each. However, in this civic poll, Congress bagged 9 seats, CPI (M) bagged 2 seats. BJP won a few seats with a little margin of votes. The general public speculated on the negative effect on disregarding local MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty by BJP-led state administration that has dropped ministerial berth at the last moment during cabinet expansion by CM Jagdish Shettar. The voters’ verdict is supreme that is difficult to speculate.
