Bantwal: Young Girl Dies in Attempted Rape at Baltila Village

Bantwal, 26 Feb 2013: In inhumane act, a young girl was found murdered in an attempted rape being reported from Baltila village, near here on Monday February 25 evening.
The deceased has been identified as twenty-two-year-old Soumya, daughter of Sitaram and Nalinakshi Serigar couple, residing at Kuntalpady, near here.
Bantwal rural police arrested a certain Satish, a neighbor of same area who was suspected of heinous crime. The police sources informed that Soumya was returning home from her aunt house in Manipal, whilst she was walking, the attacker tried to rape her. When she protested, the attacker dragged her to steep hill and pushed her into a nearby water pond. Soumya’s mother informed that the suspect has attempted to rape her twice in the past, besides he was sexually abusing the girls in the neighbourhood.
Bantwal rural sub-inspector Mahesh Prasad registered a case in this regard and investigations are under way.
Mobile handset revealed the truth:
Soumya’s neighbour - Vidhya who was walking besides the road found the former’s mobile handset. When Vidhya has gone to Soumya’s home in order to return the mobile handset, it rang. Soumya’s aunt called from Manipal to enquire whether she has reached home safely. Soumya’s family was worried because they found her mobile while she has not reached home. They began to search everywhere and found her vanity bag and shawl in a bush. They reached the water pond nearby and found her dead body.
