Udupi: Civic Poll Aspirants Submit Record Number of Nomination on Friday

Udupi, 23 Feb 2013: The record number of candidates submitted their nomination papers for civic polls for local governance here on Friday February 22 that was believed to most auspicious for them. The civic officials who were in leisure since 6 days after accepting a few nomination papers had to work diligently without break throughout Fright.
A total of 221 nomination papers were submitted for civic polls of 1 municipal council, 1 town panchayat, 2 municipalities and 4 local administrations, out of which 202 nomination papers were submitted on a single day of Friday.
A total of 68 nomination papers were received for Udupi municipal body, out of which 22 were from Congress, 37 from BJP, 6 from JDS and 3 from independent candidates.
A total of 49 nomination papers were received for Karkal municipality, out of which 22 were from BJP, 17 from Congress, 6 each from JDS and independent candidates.
A total of 62 nomination papers were received for Kundapur municipality, out of which 19 were received from Congress, 32 from BJP, 3 from JDS, 6 from CPI (M) and 2 from independent candidates.
A total of 23 nomination papers were received for Saligram town panchayat, out of which 7 were from Congress, 14 were from BJP, 2 from BSR Congress.
The last date to submit the nomination papers is Saturday February 23, the review will be held on Monday February 25. The last date to withdraw the nomination papers will be Wednesday February 27, informed Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju.
