Manipal: Brace up for challenges, Mysore University VC tells students

Manipal, 19 Feb 2013: Dr. B Suresh, Vice Chancellor of JSS University Mysore and President of Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) exhorted the pharmacy students to brace themselves up for the challenges ahead in healthcare delivery. “Recent times have seen several changes in healthcare systems around the world. Healthcare packages for individual diseases may soon become a reality. The use of biologicals as drugs will go up. The pharmacists need to acquaint themselves with the latest technologies if they want to be part of the systems,” Dr. Suresh said at the valedictory function of the year-long Golden Jubilee celebrations of Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Fortune Inn Valley View here on Friday. The Annual Day of the college was also celebrated along with the valedictory.
The Chancellor of Manipal University, Dr. Ramdas M Pai, Pro Chancellor Dr. H S Ballal, Registrar Dr. G K Prabhu, President of Indian Hospital Pharmacists Association Mr. S L Nasa, Principal and Vice Principal of MCOPS, Dr. N Udupa and Dr. C Mallikarjuna Rao, respectively were present.
Nine distinguished alumni awards were given away. Dr. Alex Joseph (Associate Professor Pharmaceutical Chemistry) was given the Good Teacher Award while Mr. Krishna Amin (Senior Technician, Department of Quality Assurance) got the Best Supporting Staff award. Besides, two new awards instituted by Dr. N Udupa were presented. These awards, christened, ‘Teacher of the Year Award’ and “Supporting Staff of the Year Award’ were given to Dr. M K Unnikrishnan (Professor and Head Pharmacy Practice Department) and Mr. Krishna Prabhu (Accounts Section), respectively.
MCOPS students were given prizes for proficiency. Research awards and travel grants to research scholars were also presented on the occasion.
Earlier, Dr. H S Ballal welcomed the gathering. Dr. N Udupa presented the college’s annual report. Mr. S L Nasa briefly addressed the assembly. Dr. C Mallikarjuna Rao proposed the vote of thanks.
Following the official function, the students and staff of MCOPS presented a variety entertainment programme.
