Udupi, 13 Feb 2013: Pandit Hariprasad Chourasia, internationally acclaimed Indian classical maestro has arrived in city for his shoulder treatment.

Seventy-five-year-old Chourasia is suffering from shoulder pain, owing to which he has been finding it difficult to handle the musical instrument. The pain has been attributed to five-decade of his musical career, informed Ayurveda Dr Tanmaya Goswamy, Sai Radha Resort, Shiroor, near here.

Addressing the media persons, Pandit Chourasia said that he had come to city 4 days ago and under Ayurvedic treatment. The pristine environment has given him peace of mind and feltless pain in his shoulder, said Pandit Chourasia.

Pandit Chourasia had come to city 4 – 5 times in the past in staging musical concerts. ‘I have chosen Karnataka for my treatment,’ said Pandit Chourasia. He has arrived without fanfare and will be under treatment in city till February 15. He will later proceed to Kumbh Mela in Allahabad.

Is fevical – a song worthy of a song?

I am not ready to lend my voice for Fevical se chipkalo – kind of songs. Whether the composer did not get any substance? Pandit Chourasis expressed his displeasure.

Pandit Chourasia had composed music for bollywood movies Sil Sila, Faisla, Sahiban, etc for many decades. He had also composed music for commercial movies - Lamle, Dar, while he has not contributed his expertise to any movies lately.

When this report enquired Pandit Chourasia in this regard, he said that he had not come across any worthy movies. If someone produces good movies and asks me to compose the music, I will accept the challenge, said Pandit Chourasia.

Someone has composed the music for bollywood movie - Choli Ka Peeche Kya Hai, but one wonders, whether the same composer will ever listen to the song in the presence of his wife and children. Why one has to scoop so low for the sake of money?

Sangeet Gurukul likely in Udupi!

Pandit Chourasia who became a famous musician in Mumbai since 2002 and FM radio had established Sanget school in the traditional method of teaching – Gurukul at Bhuvaneshwar, Odisha with the help of donors. Meanwhile, he has the plans to set up such Gurukul in Udupi, if he gets sufficient land, said Pandit Chourasia.

At the Sangeet Gurukul – food, study and accommodation will be free. The composition of music etc will be taught. No certificate will be issued to the students, because there is no end for music that had to be perfected. It’s not a job instead its worship.

I have learnt basic music from Guruma Annapoorna Devi, first wife of the late Pandit Ravishankar. I keep learning from my students. I learn the modern technology etc that are introduced in musical sphere from them, said Pandit Chourasia.
