Udupi, 07 Feb 2013: The social justice cannot be achieved without nationalization of state-owned properties. Therefore, first of all the government should nationalize the state-owned lands. As more poor homeless people are driven to the street, owing to government’s decision to issue title deeds for state-owned land under the guise of ‘Kumki’ right to private parties, proves that government favors the rich landlords. It also testifies that government is anti-poor, alleged Jayan Malpe, activists of Janapara Vedike.
Jayan Malpe was speaking during the protest held in front the office of district administration here on Wednesday February 6 evening, to urge the state government in order to withdraw the decision on ‘Kumki’ right and to allot the same land to landless poor. It was organized on the call given by Karnataka Janapara Vedike.
Addressing the gathering, Srirama Divana, founder president of Janapara Vedike said that the homeless poor have been demanding the government in order to allot at least 5 cents housing plot since several years. The state government has been issuing statements of equality among its natives, while it has taken a decision to issue legal documents for the part of state-owned lands at the possession of private individuals, said Divana. Meanwhile, he cautioned the state administration that people’s awareness programme will be held across the state, if the government does not reverse its decision, cautioned Divana.
The protesters presented a memorandum to Assistant Commissioner Kumar to forward the same to CM Jagdish Shettar.
The Vedike key leaders Hemant Kundar, Rasool Katpady, Shekar Shetty, Mohammed Handattu, Prakash Poojary, Satish Poojary, Nagendra Kota, Rajashekar Saligrama, Sanjeev Poojary, Ashwij Rao, Satish Naik, Kanyan and others were present at the occasion.
